Cadette Outing- Dinner and Concert. We went out for dinner as a troop and then to Liberty University for a concert. We saw 10th Avenue North and Sidewalk Prophets in concert. Click here to see pics.

Cadettes earning Sportmanship badge. In March the Cadettes gather at Camp Sacajawea to earn their badge for Sportsmanship. They invited the Brownies to join them for some game time to demonstrate and teach what they leaned. We heard from 2 guest speakers from Liberty and went to a softball games to watch and learn from athletes in action. Click Here for pics.

Brownie Waterbottle Take Action Project
In October the Brownies met at Sweetbriar College to hand out waterbottles to runners. In exchange for the free water bottle, the person receiving the bottle had to sign a petition saying that they would use this refillable waterbottle instead of buying water in plastic bottles. Welcome to Scouting 2014
On Sept 20-21, Troop 295 had our annual Welcome Back to Scouting Party. This was an overnighter at Camp Sac. We had 7 Brownies and 4 Caddettes in attendance. The weather was picture perfect as the Cadettes did a service project at the camp by cleaning up around the signs they made last year. We enjoyed a hike together and both levels got to do archery. Brownie Camporee 2014
On April 26-27, 10 Brownies, 5 Juniors and 3 leaders took part in this years annual Brownie Camporee. The theme was Indian Skills. The girls got to make their own tunics, headdresses and medicine bags. The Juniors got to teach about fire safety. Click here for pics.

Funquest lock in

Brownies hike to Camp Hydaway to earn the hiking badge.
On a beautiful March Day our Brownies took on the second part of earning the hiking badge. Eight of our brownies laced up their sneakers and grabbed their waterbottles for a 5 mile outing adventure. Our day was spent hiking to Camp Hydaway then to Snowflex then to the "LU" symbol then back to Snowflex. We finished our day eating at CiCi's pizza. Click here to see pics.

In December, both levels gathered together for our troop's Christmas party. We read the Christmas story, made a Christmas ornament keepsake, had a gift exchange and, of course, ate some really good food that our wonderful parents all chipped in to provide. The girls all enjoyed this time together, taking part in celebrating the birth of baby Jesus. The girls wrapped each other in registered paper to make "human Christmas trees" Click here to see pics.

In October, our Junior took part in the annual Junior Camporee. With Emily joining us from TN, this was the first time we had been together in a few months. Our girls got to use drills and caulking guns to help to build bat houses. We learned about the importance of bats and why they are our friends. We learned about the white-nosed bat which is now on Virginia’s endangered list due to a fungus that is living and growing rampant in caves. Our theme was Halloween so the girls also did a bunch of crafts with a spooky theme. Click here to see pics.
In August, our Juniors decided to tackle a project to earn their Bronze award, the third highest award a Girl Scout can earn. We routed and painted, 23 boards to make 15 signs. As a person drives into our beloved Camp Sacajawea, they will be able to read all the lines to the Girl Scout promise and law. The project took each girl about 17 hours of work, with 7 adults assisting. Midway through the day we had a snack of watermelon. You will see pictures of out watermelon seed spitting contest. Lynchburg Airport and Snowflex
On a beautiful day in March the older girls got a tour of the airport, thanks to Premier Flight Schools and Daryl Whipkey. The girls got to fly a simulator and take a tour of the hanger. We finished the day with tubing at Snowflex and dinner together. Click here to see pictures.
Ice Skating Jan 2013
In January Troop 295 took our annual ice skating trip to the LaHaye ice rink. We joined about 150 other Girl Scouts for the fun day on the ice. Click here to see pics.

Super Service Day, 2012
On Saturday December 8th, 8 of our 10 Brownies gathered for a Lynchburg City Service Unit Event with about 100 other Girl Scouts. Girls came together to stuff birthday boxes for Meals on Wheels and to decorate them too. The girls also made cards for nursing home patients. There were 3 take home crafts including: a snowman ornament, a pine cone Christmas tree and a homemade snow globe. The girls met with Mrs. Claus and sang Christmas carols with her and their favorite, of course, icing and eating sugar cookies! Click here to see pictures.
Girl Scout Ways- Camp Sacajawea
On a chilly November 3rd weekend, both levels joined together to work on earning the "Girl Scout Ways" badge. The juniors had opportunities to teach the brownies about Scouting. Each Junior was buddied with a Brownie. They played games the Juliette Low would have played, had a birthday party for Juliette and then made information sheets to go into a time capsule. Our time with the Brownies ended with lunch together. After lunch, the Juniors tried archery, cooked dinner and cleaned up, had an fun time at the campfire complete with story time and truth or dare. On Sunday we woke up, had devotions, cleaned up and went for a hike. Click here for pictures.
Junior Camporee 2012
On October 20 and 21, God blessed us with wonderful weather for our fall outing to Camp Sacajawea. The 6 of the Juniors attended the Junior Camporee with the theme of Creativity and had a wonderful time. They learned how to make cake pops, self defense, about healthy realationships, how to make jewlery and some first aid. We slept in the Bunkhouse and did not have to brave the cold like other troops. Brownie Trip to Apple Orchard
On Saturday October 13, 2012, 3 vans, 7 Brownies, 2 Juniors and 6 adults drove toward Bedford, Va for a picture perfect day at Gross Apple Orchard. The girls got an eduaction lesson on apple trees. We took a 30 minute wagon ride through the orchard, climbed on boulders bigger than we are, picked an apple each off of a tree and ended with picking apples out of the prepicked crates. Trip to Randolph College
On Monday October 1, 2012, the junior gilrs started the badge "Simple Meals" One part of earning this badge required the girls to go into a kitchen and take a tour. The folks at Randolph College invited us to come in to take a tour. The girls got to see a kitchen that feeds about 650 people 3 times a day. They learned about how to plan a menu for themselves and then go to put their knowledge into action by eating dinner with the students at Randolph College. Click here to see pics.
Trip to City Arts
On Saturday Sept. 29, 8 girls and 3 adults traveled to downtown Lynchburg to learn about public art, what it is and what purpose it serves. We were educated for an hour in how to do the mosaic and then worked for 2 hours on the mosaic, which was started in 2005. Each panel represents a different time period in the history of Lynchburg. The panel we worked on was what Lynchburg might look like in the future. It is hopefully going to be completed in November of 2012. Click here to see pictures.
The Great Girl Scout Hike
On September 15, we took 5 girls, 2 leaders and 2 parents to the Appalacian Trail to hike our commited part of the Great Girl Scout hike. Our girls had trained for over 15 miles of hiking and then were able to hike 6.3 miles form Long Mountain Wayside to the Pedlar Reservoir, Lynchburg's water source. The weather was picture perfect and the girls had a wonderful time with their cheerful and excited attitudes. It was truly a day to remember as they particpated in something that is making history. End of the year party 2012
To end the year, we had a great time at Camp Sacajawea. The daisies stayed one night and the Juniors stayed two. We did tye dye, cooking on the fire, chores, paracord bracelets, canoeing and finished with a trip to Roanoke to go to Splash Valley Water Park. The girls had an amazing time! Our final awards ceremony in May was a wonderful time for the girls to receive thier final awards for the year. The Daisies completed their daisy flower and the Juniors completed the journey aMUSE! Click here for pictures.
Daisy Day at Camp Sac
In April the Daisies got to experience a tast of what it is like to be at Camp Sac for some time. They got to learn about fire safety, how to pack a bag, they got to make their sleeping gear bags and go on a pretty long hike. Click here to see pics.

Outdoor Cooking, March 30 &31
On Friday March 30 the Juniors loaded up in the Calvary Chapel van and headed south for an Iron Chef outdoor cooking adventrure. We camped at Boy Scout Camp Ottari and learned how to cook outside. The weekend was finished with an outdoor cooking competition. The girls cooked using a dutch oven, a camp stove, a backpacking stove and learned how to menu plan. We finished our trip with a trip to CiCi's pizza. Click here for pics.

In December, we held an awards ceremony for the girls. Junior received the center circle for the Junior aMUSE Journey. Daises received 4 of the 10 petals for the center of their vests. Click Here to see pics.
Super Service Day
On December 10, 2011, both GS levels participated in Super Service Day. They were able to decorate and fill birthday boxes for Meal on Wheels. They also made Chritmas cards for the YWCA. No GS event is complete without goodies, so the girls enjoyed icing their own cookies. The girls got to make snow globes and Christmas ornaments. Click here to see pictures.

Bridging Ceremony
On Agust 8, 2011, Troop 295 held a bridging ceremony and picnic at Peak's View park. It was hot but everyone had wonderful spirits as we watched our irls fly up from Brownies to Juniors. Click here to see more pictures.
Trip to Damascus, VA/ Hike up Mt. Rogers
On June 14-16, 8 of the girls, our favorite tag along and 3 leaders loaded into the Calvary Chapel van and headed 3.5 hours south for an amazing trip to Damascus, VA. We stayed in a lovely house for 2 nights. We made s'mores, hiked 2 miles up Mt. Rogers where we saw about 3 herds of wild ponies. We enjoyed our lunch on a rock face where we could not see anything that was touched by man. The view was amazing. Our trip ended just in time to beat the rain. The next day we loaded back into the van and ended our trip in Roanoke at Splash Valley, a fun min-waterpark. We shivered the first part of the day under the cloudy skies but after snack time the skies cleared and we warmed up. After showers we finished our trip at CiCi's pizza where the leaders watched the girls down plates and plates of food. Click here to see pictures.
Brownie Camporee Princess Party
On our second camporee the girls learned how to dance a box step, review table manners, learned about water cycles and conservation. We cooked hot dogs on the campfire and slept in the Bunkhouse. Click here to see pictures.
Farm Fun at One Body in Christ Ministries
Part of earning the try-it of Animals, the Brownies left the halls of Calvary Chapel and took a tour of a barn instead. The girls learned how to groom a horse, basics of taking care of horses and as you will see, how to get on and off of a horse. Each girl got to ride about 20 minutes. Their favorite part was getting to see and hold baby chickens. Click here to see pictures of our outing.
Brownie Science Try-It
In January the girls traveled to Sweetbriar College for a fun learning day of Science. They earned 7 try-its in the jammed packed science day. We enjoyed lunch college style as we ate in the dining hall. Click Here to see more pics.
Christmas Party
On December 19th, we had a Christmas party for the girls. They made Christmas ornaments, each girl colored and decorated 2 squares for a quilt that we are going to donate to the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center. We also had a scavenger hunt and a gift exchange and enjoyed a yummy lunch and snacks brought in by our parents. It was a great fun day! Click here for pics.
Fall Outing to Laymans Corn Maze
On October 23rd, we enjoy an absolutely beautiful day in Montvale, Va at Layman's Corn Maze. One of our 2 groups got lost for an hour or more in the maze and the other group came to their rescue. This was a great lesson in teamwork and developing leadership. The girls enjoyed a corn box (like a sandbox only with corn), a cow train, a mini corn maze, a huge pillow jumpy thing, and we finished the day with a relaxing hayride. Our dinner was at McDonalds because it was too cold to eat outside like we had planned. Our evening was finished with ice cream, sundaes and cupcakes. Click Here to see pics.
Day Hike at Camp Sacajawea
On a lovely day, April 3rd, the entire troop was able to gather together to prepare for the overnight sleepover at Camp Sac. We had a great day, tho tiring, in the sun. We played in the tents, learned how to wash our own dishes, use the latrine, fill up the water bucket, how to be safe around a fire, how to bulid an A-Frame fire, how to make and use a Lark Knot, how to roast marshmallows, how to roll our sleeping bags, how to use our raingear, and on top of all the learning, we managed to squeeze in a lot of fun. Our girls learned so much! They are all prepared for a fun overnighter in May with 90 other Brownies! Click here to see pics.
